Manakish is one of the easiest things to feed a room with. It is eaten by hand, it needs no cutlery, it works hot or at room temperature, there is a version for every dietary restriction in the room, and it costs a fraction of what a catered lunch runs. For a school event, an office breakfast, a birthday, an iftar or an Eid morning, a stack of warm manakish does more work than almost anything else you could order.
Here is how to order it properly.
How much to order per person
Manakish are usually cut into quarters or strips when served to a group, so people take pieces rather than whole rounds. Rough guides:
- Morning coffee or snack alongside other food: half a manakish per person.
- Breakfast or lunch, manakish as the main event: one to one and a half per person.
- Hungry teenagers, or an evening iftar: two per person, and expect them to go.
- Kids under ten: half, and make sure some of it is cheese.
The most common mistake is ordering too few savoury and too much sweet. Nutella manakish looks great on the table but people eat one piece and stop. Keep it to roughly a fifth of the order.
Which flavours to mix
A platter that works for a mixed room, scaled to 20 pieces:
- 6 zaatar — the default, vegan, and the one people from the region will look for first.
- 5 cheese — the crowd-pleaser, and the one kids reach for.
- 4 meat — the substantial option. All our meat is certified halal.
- 3 spinach — vegan, and covers anyone avoiding dairy.
- 2 nutella — dessert, cut into strips.
If the group skews younger, swap some meat for chicken or pepperoni. If you want one wildcard that people will ask about, make it muhammara.
Which travel best
Not all manakish survive a drive equally well. Ranked by how they hold up over an hour:
- Zaatar — best. The oil keeps the bread soft and it is genuinely good at room temperature.
- Spinach and meat — hold well, still good warm or cool.
- Cheese — best eaten hot. It firms up as it cools, so plan to reheat or serve it first.
- Nutella — fine, but keep it flat and separate or it will smear across everything.
Keeping them warm
- Stack, then wrap. Stack same flavours together, wrap the stack in foil, then in a clean tea towel. This holds heat for well over an hour — better than any insulated bag.
- Do not seal them in plastic while hot. Steam condenses and you get soggy bread.
- Reheat properly. 180°C (350°F) for 4–5 minutes, or a minute per side in a dry pan. Never the microwave — it makes the dough tough.
- Cut just before serving, not before transporting.
What to serve alongside
Manakish wants sharp, fresh things next to it. From our produce and grocery aisles, all in one stop:
- Fresh mint, sliced tomato and cucumber — people tuck these in before rolling
- Olives, pickled turnip and pickled cucumber
- Labneh with olive oil, and a bowl of extra zaatar for dipping
- Sweet black tea, or ayran if you are serving meat manakish
- Baklava and knafeh from the bakery counter, if you want a proper dessert
How to place a large order
For anything above roughly a dozen pieces, give us a day's notice so we can bake it fresh rather than pulling from what is on the counter.
- Call (905) 878-4567. Phone is the only way to place a platter order — smaller everyday orders can also go through Uber Eats.
- Tell us the total count, the flavour split, and your pickup time. If you are not sure on the split, tell us the headcount and we will suggest one.
- Pick up at the bakery counter — parking is at the door at 700 Nipissing Rd.
Our bakery is open Tuesday to Sunday, 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM, and closed Mondays — so plan pickups around that. During Ramadan, order a few days ahead for iftar and Eid; that week gets busy quickly.
